Common Set of Examples <title>For TEI Guidelines <docnum>TEI &docfile. <date>&docdate. </titlep> </frontm> <body> The working committees of the Text Encoding Initiative should prepare examples of real text marked up with the methods they recommend. The examples should cover a variety of text types, markup problems, and markup styles. Multiple encodings of the same example in a variety of styles are encouraged. The sample text fragments encoded should contain material chosen by each committee for its aptness in demonstrating the use of the committee's tags; the samples should also include at least one encoding (for each committee) of each example text in the list below. Printed versions of each text sample will be attached, where available; electronic versions may be requested, where available, from the editors. Each sample is 300 to 2000 words long. <p> N.B. This draft list is subject to improvement by suggestions from the members of the Initiative, and may be changed if copyright permissions cannot be obtained. <ol> <li>Extract from <cit>Moby Dick</cit> (chapel scene, memorial tablets) <li>One sample from the tagged Brown or LOB corpora <li>Psalm 23 in one or more versions: AV, RSV, NIV, NEB, Luther, Vulgate, Septuagint, Hebrew with or without pointing and cantillation <li>First Folio text of two pages of <cit>Hamlet</cit> I.i. <li>One radiologist's report from ACL/DCI sample tape.
